Understanding Campaign Badges

BisaFund uses three distinct badges to help donors understand what has and hasn't been verified, and whether funds have reached the organiser. Here's exactly what each badge means.

Campaign Status vs. Identity Verification

🔵Active Campaign

The campaign has been reviewed and approved by a BisaFund admin. It is live and accepting donations. The organizer has NOT necessarily completed identity verification yet.

  • Campaign content reviewed by admin
  • Approved to accept donations
  • Organizer identity not yet verified
  • Cannot withdraw funds until verified
🟢Identity Verified

The organizer has completed Smile ID biometric KYC verification — their government ID and selfie were matched against the Ghana government database — OR a BisaFund admin has manually verified their identity after reviewing ID and selfie evidence.

  • Organizer identity confirmed via Smile ID
  • Biometric selfie matched to government ID
  • Or admin manual override after evidence review
  • Eligible to withdraw campaign funds
Funds Disbursed

The organiser has opted-in to display this badge after at least one completed payout. It confirms that BisaFund has processed and disbursed funds to the organiser. Celebrity campaigns also show the total amount disbursed; regular campaigns show only the badge to protect financial privacy.

  • At least one completed payout processed by admin
  • Organiser has opted-in to public display
  • Celebrity campaigns show total disbursed amount
  • Reflects only completed payouts — pending withdrawals are not counted

Key Distinction

An Active campaign has been admin-approved for content compliance and can accept donations. An Identity Verified campaign has had the organizer's identity confirmed via Smile ID biometric KYC or admin manual override. These are separate processes — a campaign can be Active without being Identity Verified, but it cannot process withdrawals until identity verification is complete.

Our Verification Process

Smile ID Biometric KYC

Organizer submits government ID details (Ghana Card, Voter ID, Passport, or SSNIT) and takes a selfie. Smile ID checks the details against the Ghana government database and matches the selfie to the ID photo.

Admin Manual Override

If Smile ID verification fails (e.g., poor photo quality, system error), a BisaFund admin can manually review the submitted ID and selfie evidence and grant a verification override at their discretion.

Fraud Screening

Automated checks flag suspicious patterns, duplicate campaigns, and high-risk signals before a campaign goes live.

Important Limitations

Identity verification does not guarantee funds will be used as stated
We cannot verify the severity of medical or emergency claims
Identity Verified campaigns may still be reported and investigated
BisaFund is not liable for how withdrawn funds are used
An Active campaign without Identity Verified means the organizer has not completed KYC yet

FAQs

What is the difference between Active and Identity Verified?

"Active" means the campaign has been approved by BisaFund admin and is accepting donations. "Identity Verified" means the organizer has completed Smile ID biometric KYC verification (or received an admin manual override), confirming their identity against a government database. A campaign can be Active without being Identity Verified — the organizer just cannot withdraw funds until verification is complete.

Does the Identity Verified badge guarantee the campaign is legitimate?

No. The Identity Verified badge confirms that the organizer's identity has been verified against a government database. It does not guarantee that the campaign's claims are true, that funds will be used as described, or that the campaign will succeed. Always read the campaign story carefully and donate at your own discretion.

Can I donate to a campaign that is Active but not Identity Verified?

Yes. Many legitimate campaigns have not yet completed identity verification. The organizer cannot withdraw funds until verification is complete, so your donation is held securely in escrow. Use your judgment — read the story, check the organizer profile, and donate what you are comfortable with.

How does the organizer get Identity Verified?

The organizer completes Smile ID biometric KYC verification from their campaign dashboard. They submit their government ID details (Ghana Card, Voter ID, Passport, or SSNIT) and take a selfie, which Smile ID matches against their ID photo. If Smile ID verification fails, a BisaFund admin can manually review the submitted evidence and grant a manual override at their discretion.

Can the Identity Verified badge be revoked?

Yes. BisaFund admins can revoke identity verification at any time if fraud is suspected or if the verification was obtained through deception. Revoking the badge prevents the organizer from making further withdrawals until re-verification is completed.

What does the "Funds Disbursed" badge mean?

The "Funds Disbursed" badge appears on a campaign page when the organiser has opted-in AND at least one completed payout has been processed by BisaFund admins. It gives donors confidence that funds have successfully reached the organiser. For celebrity campaigns, the total disbursed amount is shown alongside the badge for full transparency; for regular campaigns, only the badge is displayed to protect financial privacy.

Can the organiser hide the Funds Disbursed badge?

Yes. The "Funds Disbursed" badge is entirely opt-in. The organiser can toggle it on or off at any time from their campaign dashboard. The badge only appears when opted-in AND there is at least one completed payout.
